Piercing Care

New piercings should be cleaned twice a day. A surgical scrub such as Provon or Satin Soap is preferred. Soaps containing deodorants, cold cream, strong perfumes, etc., should NOT be used. Note: Don't use Betadine on gold jewelry as it will discolor!

During the healing process, matter secreted from piercing will dry on around the opening of the piercing. Use warm water only to remove the secretion from the jewelry & piercing. Lather piercing with surgical scrub or Satin soap, and move the jewelry back & forth under running water. Make sure all traces of soap are removed. Follow this procedure twice a day while showering. Hydrogen Peroxide or alcohol should NOT be used on body piercing!

For lip, tongue & cheek piercing, rinse with TECH 2000 everytime you eat, drink, smoke, or have oral contact. To aid the healing use Gly Oxide twice daily. Provon or Satin soap should be used on the outside of the piercing 2-3 times daily.

During the first few days after the piercing, or if signs of infection become apparent, an ointment such as Neosporin or Bacitracin can be used. Use the products twice daily for 3 days - 6 times total. Be careful using these products & follow the direction on the package to avoid allergic reaction.

According to medical sources, the overall healing process is enhanced with a well balanced diet & vitamin-mineral supplements. A 50mg Zinc supplement taken 3 times daily, with meals can accelerate healing. Dosage should be reduced or cease when healing is complete.

Oral contact with or handling new piercings can cause infection & should be avoided. Although genital piercings do not prohibit sex during healing, men & women should promote good hygiene by wearing a prophylactic during intercourse to minimize the risk of infection.
